Beaches and Surfing
Moss Landing is a worldclass powerful beachbreak, one of
California's best.  Not for the faint of heart and guarded by a regular
crew of locals.  Visitors and especially longboarders watch your step.
Winter brings big, powerful surf.

Marina State Park good fun up to overhead and then starts to close
out.  Lots of peaks so you don’t have to be with the crowd.  Gets
blown out, great for parasailing.  Lots of wildlife in the water and
shore fishermen add to the thrill.

Tioga best peaks are right there, can’t hold size above shoulder high,
closes out.  Grass looks greener to the north but close outs are the
rule.

Monterey State Beach great for beginners on small days, closes out
with any size, nice sandy bottom,

San Carlos Beach, no surf, the place to go to be with all your diving
buddies.  Great place to build a sandcastle and go wading.

Lover’s Point west to north swells wrap around a rocky point to
produce some fine waves.   A great place to share with a few other
folks, only one take off so the point can only support a small group.
Play nice and share the fun.

Asilomar State Beach has multiple spots, roadside, middle and reefs
going right to left.  Can handle big swells, and can get crowded but if
you play nice and respect the local folks and know your limits, you’ll
have fun.  Strong waves and current, sometimes a challenge to get
out.  Be prepared to paddle.
